Zipper
[Return to Periodicals]
Background
Lifestyle and erotica magazine published out of London, by founding editors Alan Purnell and Alex McKenna. Zipper has some relation to Purnell’s HIM titles (Him Exclusive, Him International, Him Monthly). The editorial in issue 1 notes that Zipper followed in the wake of Gay Week, which went out of business due to financial issues (couldn’t pay printers, typesetters, or writers!), and Zipper would be sent to subscribers in lieu of Gay Week.
Issues no. 1–4 are digest size, then the format switches to standard newsstand size at #5. Purnell seems to have left the magazine by #5.
Incorporating SAM magazine by at least issue no. 12.
The first issue of Zipper (1977) was featured in Pink Mince #12 — The Stroke.
