About

Portrait of John S. Barrington by Angus McBean

John S. Paignton — pseudonym for John S. Barrington — has been referred to known as the "godfather of British physique photography". He began photographing and drawing figural studies of male nudes in the 1930s, and launched Male Model Monthly, the first physique magazine in the UK, in 1954. He also wrote a semi-biographical novel called "Out of Sickness" in 1950.
