About

George Mavety (died 19 August 2000 at age 63) was the owner of a New York-based publishing company known at various times as Modernismo, Mavety Media Group, or MMG Services.

Mavety was born in Canada. After a short time as a teacher, he launched a mail-order business, House of Books. He moved to N.Y.C. after a time in California. Before becoming a publisher, Mavety worked in distribution, including titles such as Colt and Dilettante. When Dilettante, edited by John Devere, folded in 1974 after 4 issues, Mavety offered to take over the magazine, which he relaunched in 1975 as Mandate.
